Campfire USA Visit

Operation Teddy Bear

The Gamma Phi Beta Sorority supports camping for girls as its international philanthropy, and the South Bay Alumnae chapter supports these efforts. Whether it's by hosting events, planning and participating in fundraisers or donating money, we make sure to keep philanthropic activities high on our list of priorities.

Why Camping For Girls?

Gamma Phi Beta supports camping for a variety of reasons. First of all, it is a cause that society will always be able to benefit from; no matter what major advancements are made in medicine or technology, there will always be a need to develop young girls into leaders, and to provide them with self-esteem building experiences. Camping for girls can be adapted to fit whatever the current needs of society might be, and it is a proactive way to instill good values and skills in future women during the crucial years in which they are growing up.

Camp Fire USA
At the Gamma Phi Beta 2002 Convention, delegates voted to begin a relationship with Camp Fire USA, one of the country's leading non-profit youth development organizations. Since the relationship began, our chapter has worked hard to support the closest CFUSA Council, which is located in Long Beach, CA.

Operation Teddy Bear

Each year, our chapter members participate in the annual volunteer event “Operation Teddy Bear,” which provides backpacks filled with school supplies to under-served children in L.A.-area elementary schools. The project is hosted by The Volunteer Center in Torrance, and this year’s volunteers (including South Bay Alumnae members) stuffed 5,600 backpacks with supplies for first-graders at 47 schools. Thanks to all our sisters who support this volunteer event, which usually occurs in August!
